Pino & Pizza 2022
Sat Oct 1, 16:00 - Sat Oct 1, 22:00
Folk Café St. James
This is a unique event! First of its kind! A revolution! Pizza and wine together at last!
The Folk Café Pino and Pizza festival will be a celebration of the Pino family of varietals, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Pinotage, expertly paired with artisanal wood fired pizzas. Tastings will be curated by some of the Western Cape’s top wine producers including Oak Valley, Mount Rosier, Cape Collective, Usana, Waverly Hills, Anura, DA Hannekom and Bloemendal. You’ll be entertained on the night with live music and exciting giveaways whilst you work your way through eight pairings! If you love wine, music and pizza there really is nowhere better to be. You can expect a little surprise welcome drink and the opportunity to buy wines direct from the farm at cellar door prices. Each of the exhibitors will also be showcasing some of their other fabulous wines and you can purchase extra credits at the event to taste and buy additional tasters, glasses or bottles of wine. We encourage you to get up close and personal with the wine makers that produce these exciting wines. This is a family friendly event, with entertainment for the kids, so bring the whole crew. Kids are free and pizza’s and other drinks will be available to order.
Live entertainment on the day will feature the legendary trio Nick Turner and friends featuring special guest performances throughout the afternoon.
The wines selected for the festival pay homage to the excellence and versatility of the varietal. Pinotage is considered by many to be South Africa’s signature varietal. It was cultivated here in 1925 as a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut (Hermitage). Pinot Gris, which is only recently becoming popular on South African’s palates, is a white grape thought to be a mutant clone of Pinot Noir that produces richly textured wines that have long been popular in Italy and France. Pinot Noir, one of the worlds most popular red wines, and notoriously difficult to grow, thrives in the Capes cooler climates and produces light bodied red wines of elegance and complexity. This is a wine tasting of exceptional quality and diversity.
