ABOUT
Greetings and salutations.
We are back on the streets with our second Three Women gathering of 2021 this Sunday, and yet again we are honored to host a sister who shares in our love for vinyl and beautiful music, the OG Linda Meyer.
With our return to the outdoors we have found ourselves a new home in a new city, giving us an opportunity to spread the grooves even further and to explore more unchartered terrain. Railways Cafe is our new home, and with this we say "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!!"
Partnering up with us to bring you a live audio-visual broadcast with views of the iconic Railways Café Theatre stage and of course a timeless musical showcase from myself, Sumthin Brown, Sanetran of Not Sorry Club, and our speshal guest, Linda Meyer, is Cape Town based independent online station, A11 Radio, who have been with us since we added the audio-visual element to our Three Women sessions, which we piloted in January 2020 with speshal guest, BUJIN from Cape Town.
About Linda Meyer:
Linda Meyer started to learn to DJ around 1999 after a trip to London & the world’s then party capital, Ibiza. While learning to mix, Linda started hosting her own events where she would warm up the floor with the opening set.
Going by the moniker ‘Sweet Sarah’, Linda’s first events were the aptly named ‘Sunshine Sundays’ at Durban’s iconic harbour-side Bat Centre. In what is now her over 20-year career, Linda has held dozens of residencies in clubs like 330, Skyybar, Vacca Matta, Tilt, PopArt Cafe and on national broadcast radio station 5fm as well as Cape Town’s GoodHope FM. Linda has traveled internationally as a DJ, including Sweet Sarah sets in Istanbul and Mauritius.
In 2006 Linda moved to London to explore her passion for music. The Durbanite spent 10 years working at Juno Records, first as a Music Expert (categorizing releases into genres - a music geek’s dream) and later managing the vinyl manufacturing & distribution department. While in London she continued to host events and DJ, including a set at ADE (Amsterdam). Linda also ran a label called Hlanganani Records, an e-zine & podcast series called Deep Absurdum and a live stream, the cheekily named Basic TV.
During this time Linda produced original music as part of the duo Sahin Meyer which released on RetroFit, Sccucci Manucci, Room With A View, Peppermint Jam, Galaktika and Andre Lodemann’s Best Works. The track ‘Spread Love’ was also featured locally on Soul Candi’s ‘Kid Fonque and Friends’ release.
Always keeping the homefire burning, Linda hosted events in SA using her global network to introduce overseas DJs such as Andre Lodemann, Trickski and XDB.
In 2016 Linda called her time in London to a close and returned home to start out fresh under the alias, ‘Linda Meyer’.
2017 saw Linda pool her years of experience to open her very own record store (the only woman-owned record store in the country so far). South Store is the perfect amalgamation of Linda’s far-reaching musical interests and faultless taste, set in a cozy, welcoming lounge that invites you to kick off your shoes, lay a record on the platter, and just let go.
