ABOUT

Shibari Fundamentals: 2-rope gote deep dive

Learn about the fundamental hands-behind-the back tie - the gote, “TK” or munenawa. This tie is beautiful, elegant and minimalist… but the simple design betrays the technical details required to tie it well.  Learning this fundamental tie opens your Shibari practice up to a world of possibility - it has most of the technical components of common ties (frictions, correct tension, lock-offs) allowing for translation of the skills you gain here into other areas of your practice. It is also an incredibly high risk tie if not tied with precision in terms of rope tension and placement. Learning this tie will give you the respect and reverence for the craft of rope bondage we think it deserves.

This workshop will require you to tie in pairs without switching. You will need max three 8m, 5-6mm diameter ropes for this workshop and safety shears. If you don’t have your own rope, you can use our class rope. If you are being tied, make sure to wear comfortable form-fitting clothing and try to get a shoulder/arm stretch in before class.

About your teachers:

Astrid has been tying and teaching informally since 2016, creating Embodiment Rope Space and her private rope hustle (www.desirelinesbondage.com) in 2021. She has had the privilege of training with a number of international educators over the years, with most of her experience in tying Kinoko’s style TK and suspensions. She sees her rope practice as an on-going journey of learning and discovery. She believes that rope is an unparalleled tool for revealing the parts that we keep hidden.

Sim is both a rope top and a rope bottom, starting her rope learning journey in 2018. Her tying insights comes from being tied and believes that being present and involved in both roles makes her a better rope top. She enjoys mixing analog photography (https://www.instagram.com/vroeteldier/) with traditional rope bondage and as with most things in life feels that rope is a lifelong practise committed to communication, intention and learning. For her rope is merely not just a tool but a form of self expression and intimacy.
