ABOUT

The Empathy Project is a space and platform for like and unlike minded people to gather and connect in person, to unpack social commentary in a safe and intimate space. We ask questions, exchange experiences and encourage real engagement. The aim is inspire empathy and build understanding by listening to each other's views, ideas & experiences. To address the proverbial elephant in the room, around all social issues facing us in this country, through honest and gracious communication.

In Session #3:

Race in the workplace is difficult to navigate, even in the BBBEE & Employment Equity era. The widespread belief is that, NOW is the time for the Black Employees to thrive. But being Black at Work goes far beyond Affirmative Action and Diversity seminars. It’s a tension between greatness & restraint.

How much do these policies translate to the daily experiences of Black people at work?

How empowered do Black staffers truly feel? And does Diversity & Inclusion matter when non-white employees still endure discomfort in order to succeed?

We'll be at Humble Coffee on Friday 29th October, 6:30 pm, to talk through these issues and share our experiences over good wine and great coffee.
