ABOUT

One of the more easily accessible hiking trails, Vergenoeg is found on the slopes of the Magaliesberg. The terrain is similar to Rustig with a short technical climb of approx 2km followed by a trail along the ridge. This reserve overlooks the Hartebeespoort Dam.

Trails include the Protea trail which leads to a white rock and is approximately 3km walking distance, while the scenic return journey via the Leopard trail is approximately 4km.

The walk along the ridge extends the trail. These are informal unmarked trails and provide a privileged view of the endangered Cape Vulture as they launch themselves from the cliffs into the thermals.

More than 200 bird species and more than 50 indigenous trees have been identified on this route to date. There are also artifacts and battlefield sites from the Anglo-Boer War.
