Our focus at Blah Blah Bar is primarily on music. Whether its live or our playlists, we try to find innovative ways for our audiences to be introduced to music they may never have heard before, or presented in ways they have not seen it before.
And so counterpoint/kontrapunto was born….building on the direct translation from Latin, the idea is to present diverse singer/songwriters on the same stage, with each performing a solo set and ending with all the musicians performing a set together.
For music (and musicians) to avoid stagnation, this kind of cross-pollination is crucial.
Emma du Preez is a sweet-throated indie-folk singer/song-writer from Cape Town. Well known for her role in Oh Mercy!, Emma commands her own stage with confidence and grace.
Francesca Biancoli is a jazz singer from Italian background. Her band, Zingara, has performed in most of the local jazz haunts.
Jonny Luck is a member of Early Spring, and launched his solo career recently. Deep-throated and edgy, he compliments his Counterpoint partners well.
