The Bandwidth Barn Woodstock
ABOUT
This Wednesday, 17 February, the Barn Woodstock will be hosting Boxgirls from the Barn Khayelitsha. Their innovative App in collaboration with RespAct, is in the running for the Google Impact Challenge with a winning prize of R170 000. The prize also includes support from Google engineers to build an app that will help refugee children integrate better into their host communities. Winners will be selected by online votes.
About RespAct App
Provides teachers with new and innovative tools that they need to guide mixed groups of learners how to get along with each other respectfully and with tolerance. The app will contribute towards improved communication between learners. The contents in the app can be translated into different foreign languages which will make it much easier for learners to learn new languages. A short film will be shown about the app prototype and Boxgirls’ work teaching math and leadership with grade 5 girls in previously disadvantaged schools in Khayelitsha.
Heather Cameron of RespAct said “we are really excited about what this is going to do for us; we will use some of the money to make films and app modules in Khayelitsha”.
