What The World Needs Now, is kindness, compassion, patience, empathy, resilience... and love!


Our twice-annual Showcase is designed to introduce our students to the performance space, not an easy task during a global pandemic during which the Arts and live events have suffered tremendous blows. Please support our young (and older!) performers as they take to the stage once again, this time with a small studio audience as well as online streaming.

KKPA holds twice annual Showcases in order to develop students' live performance skills, with items selected to challenge and develop their technical abilities, range, and genre. Working together with renowned musician Johan Laas and performer Danielle Bitton, Kim uses her considerable experience as a performer, artist and songwriter, to identify, nurture and develop talent in aspiring performers.

LINE-UP

Rania Ahmed

Rania joined KKPA in 2019, and with Kim and Johan's nurturing teaching style has since soared in confidence. She immerses herself with private singing and is working towards her vocal exams later this year. Rania is a member of Reddam House' Vocal Ensemble, and this is her fourth Showcase.

Petya Bartosch

Petya is 20 years old, born in Johannesburg to an Austrian family. She loves to sing, play the piano and violin, learn languages, surf, laugh and travel. She is currently doing a BA in Visual Communication at Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography. She also runs her own soccer outreach program and food scheme.?

Ardene Felix

Ardene’s love for music and singing started at age 6. She grew up surrounded by music, and has been engaged extensively in various musical roles ever since. She also plays the piano and flute, and is self-taught. Following a challenging last 12 months, Ardene has recently joined KKPA as a first-time dream catcher, and is learning to love herself with music.?

Lisa Goosen

Lisa is wife, mother of 3 wonderful children and 8 dogs! She is a businesswoman passionate about the tourism industry, and has a love of singing that brings balance to her life and joy to those who are willing to listen.?

Daniella Jahnig

Daniella has performed in various choirs and stage productions over the years, with a versatile vocal range from alto to soprano. Daniella plays the violin, guitar, ukelele and keyboard. She is active in drama, ice skating and horse riding. This is Daniella’s third showcase.

Scot Jordaan

Scot’s passion for music and especially singing started at the young age of five. He first experimented with keyboard and then moved to piano, and has recently discovered electric guitar as his true love. Scot joined the Academy in 2018 and this is his sixth Showcase.?

Caprese Katz

Caprese is a grade 6 pupil at Reddam House. She is a diligent student with many passions including singing, film making, acting, tennis and netball. Her greatest love is for her pet budgies, her hamster, dog and cats. Home is her happy place and she loves spending the little free time she has with her family and her animals.?

Hamish Leppan

Hamish is new to KKPA and has the distinction of being our oldest student, proving we're never too old to learn, or to take up a lifelong dream. This is Hamish's first Showcase.

Annie Moyo

Annie is one of KKPA's newest students, performing in her first Showcase.

Catherine Wichary

Catherine has been with KKPA since 2017. Apart from her lessons with Kim and Johan, she sings with her school choir, and plays both piano and cello. In Grade 10 this year, she has chosen Music as a Matric subject and is loving the theory and history side of the subject almost as much as the practical!

VOCAL COACHES

Kim Kallie

Kim's experience in the entertainment industry began at the tender age of 8 with her mother Judy Page. They recorded a song called ‘Montreal’ which reached 10th place on the South African charts.


During her professional career Kim has been involved in various television productions, the recording industry (where she achieved numerous platinum albums), musical and industrial theatre, session singing, jingle work, as well as being a member of many amazing bands.


Kim then decided to share her vast experience and create her own singing and performance academy, and thus the Kim Kallie Performance Academy was born in 2014.

Danielle Bitton

Those who lived in Sea Point during lockdown had the pleasure of being entertained by the beautiful voice of Danielle Bitton. While many have heard of her as "The Sea Point Balcony Singer", few knew the story that led her there.


International singer, Danielle Bitton is a whole lot of talent in one package – a singer, actress, musical theatre leading lady and DJ. She has been blessed to make a career for herself travelling the world and singing professionally for the last 20 years. Classically trained by the best in both South Africa and New York, she is extremely versatile in her vocal abilities which span the genres of Jazz, Pop, Dance, Latin, Classical, Musical Theatre and Rock. Danielle sings in multiple languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Hebrew and Arabic.


Danielle joined KKPA in 2021 as a vocal coach, bringing her signature energy and passion into the studio space.

MUSICIANS

Johan Laas: Pianist and Musical Director

Music captivated Johan from a very early stage in his life, as he started playing the piano at the age of 3. He joined his father’s band at the age of 15, and his love for music continued to grow. In the 70’s when it was still compulsory for young school-leaving men to join the South African Defence Force, Johan joined the Entertainment Group and toured around the country for three years with a 5-piece pop/rock band entertaining the troops.


Johan's love for all genres of music took him on a journey, producing albums for local and international artists, composing and arranging variety TV shows, numerous extravaganzas, movie scores, radio station identity music, radio commercials and live concerts from 5-piece bands to full orchestras.


International projects that he arranged and produced took him to France, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Belgium and Italy. Johan had 9 Artes Award nominations of which he won one. He also won the M-Net Movie Award for the best movie score in Africa.


Locally Johan has worked with, among others, Soweto String Quartet, The Afro Tenors, Bruce Cassidy, Judy Page, Kim Kallie, Steve Hofmeyr, The Parlotones and Vodacom’s “Yebo Gogo”, Michael de Pinna.


Johan joined the “Idols” team right from the start as Musical Director in 2002. He completed 8 seasons in South Africa as well as two in West Africa and East Africa.


In 2017 Johan relocated to Cape Town, where he joined the Kim Kallie Performance Academy. 

Nick Ford: Bass Guitar

Nicholas Ford is an aspiring 18 year old musician from Cape Town. He has been playing music since a young age, starting with piano and progressing to drums and bass later on. He plays regular gigs with various school bands at Rondebosch Boys High as well as with his dad Andrew Ford, and loves to perform. This is his 7th showcase as part of the band.

Dane Coetzee: Cello

Dane Coetzee started playing the Cello in the New Apostolic Church. He went on to graduate in cello performance studies at UCT and Stellenbosch University respectively. He has performed concerts and appeared at music festivals in Africa, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East. Dane is currently based in Cape Town as a full-time member of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and is active as a chamber and session musician regularly crossing over into various genres of music.

Darren Petersen: Drums

Darren Petersen has established himself as a premier professional drum, percussion and sampling specialist in South Africa. He first started playing professionally at age 15, joined the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra at 16 as an ADHOC member, and secured the position of drum-kit player in the South African Youth Jazz Band. After school, he majored in Jazz Performance at the South African College of Music at The University of Cape Town. He has played with a long list of top South African artists, from Francois van Coke to Loyiso Bala, and has toured extensively around the world with big theatre productions like The Sound of Music. He has also worked as the touring and studio drummer for Karen Zoid. He was also the percussionist and samplist for The Voice (South Africa), Season 2. He holds full endorsements from ROLAND South Africa, TAMA South Africa, ZILDJIAN CYMBAL COMPANY International, PROMARK STICKS South Africa and EVANS Drum Heads South Africa.?
