ABOUT

A joint fundraiser for Okiep High School and Garage Dance Ensemble

About the school

Okiep High is one of only two schools in the Northern Cape that offers dance and drama as matriculation subjects. Under direction of Dawn Langdown the students have achieved a 100% pass rate since 2008. As with the rest of the Province this school is sadly under resourced.

About the dance company

Garage Dance Ensemble is a small but skilled contemporary dance company based in the mining town of O’okiep. Under direction of John Linden and his partner Alfred Hinkel this company serves the municipal area of Nama Khoi with loyal audiences from seven towns in the region. Garage regularly tours the region and National and International festivals.

A John Linden, Alfred Hinkel & Garage Production with the poetry of Ronelda Kamfer.

INK US Toyota Woordfees Stellenbosch Maart 2020

~ Jo-Ann Floris

"Thank you, Ronelda.S. Kamfer, for ripping off the plaster that has been attempting to hold together a dilapidated house before any one gets the chance to object. With the dancers from Garage Dance Ensemble all the way from O’okiep in Namaqualand, skilfully directed by Alfred Hinkel and his partner John Linden, this production is disturbing because every scenario is so credible.

…….the reality is like sandpaper on your skin.

……the narrator is the poster girl of small brown communities. Wet-look hair no front teeth and a face that say; “Don’t mess with me.”

Two birds with one stone!!

Garage has made it this far through the pandemic. Now we need assistance to keep going.
