ABOUT

Manyano Media presents the inaugural [BLACK GIRL LIVE] Fellowship Showcase.

 

Manyano Media presents two new works by [BLACK GIRL LIVE] fellows, Hope Netshivhambe and Ayanda Nxumalo.

 

A poetic provocation moving through text and sound, “Things Without Names” by Hope Netshivhambe follows the life of Marubini, a young Christian woman grappling with the tensions of sexuality and religion. 

 

Created and performed by Hope Netshivhambe 

 

Told through poetry, music and movement, “Camdeboo” by Ayanda Nxumalo traces vignettes of Sara Baartman’s life and it’s residues in modern society.

About the project

 

Manyano Media is a multidisciplinary creative company established to create employment and development opportunities, as well as platforms for independent storytellers and producers. The company was established in 2019 by Theatre Practitioner and Poet, Koleka Putuma.

 

About the Fellows

 

Hope Netshivhambe is an acclaimed Storyteller and Voiceover Artist born in Venda, Limpopo. She attended Vaal University of Technology, receiving a Diploma in Marketing in 2015 and a certificate in Radio and TV Presenting at Oakfields College in 2017. Hope has been featured widely on radio and television. She is the co-writer and performer of the short film #WeAreDyingHere, recently nominated for best short narrative at this year’s Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, CA. 

 

Ayanda Nxumalo is a multidisciplinary Artist who graduated from Durban University of Technology (DUT). She is an Actor, Singer, Dancer, Poet and Writer who’s been performing on stages from a young age, starting her performance career in church nativity plays. In 2019, Ayanda authored and published the anthology Drum Beats. Ayanda is the recipient of the Best Singer Award at DUT in 2019 and the Best Actress Award at the Insimu Theatre Festival 2019.
