An intimate evening where Joy Watson and Sue Nyathi will be in discussion with Claudia Lopes on a feminist reading of 'When Secrets Become Stories' and 'The Other Me'. 


Guests are invited to engage the authors over a light dinner spread of "Small Plates" in the beautifully appointed Tommy's Bar at The Rand Club in Marshalltown, Johannesburg's LiteraryDistrict.

About the author:


Joy Watson is a feminist researcher and writer. Her research areas of specialisation are analysing public policy and service delivery, as well as tracking funding flows from the perspective of building social equity. She has many years of experience in developing feminist responses to public policy. She has worked on research initiatives in South Africa as well as internationally, including for the UN Habitat’s Safer Cities programme, and has served as a technical advisor to UN Women initiatives. She is in the processing of finalising her PHD on rape and public policy at the University of Stellenbosch. Together with Amanda Gouws, she has co-edited the book, Nasty Women Talk Back, A Collection of Feminist Essays on the Global Women’s Marches’ (Imbali, 2018). Her debut novel, The Other Me was published by Karavan Press in February 2022.
