Our next available trip is on the 12th of February 2017. All our trips for 2016 are now fully booked.The trips to Cullinan after the one on 3 December are 10 December, 11 December and 16 December and then we will restart with our first trip for 2017 on 12 February 2017.
Welcome aboard Friends of the Rail's vintage steam train
Take a vintage steam train day trip from Hermanstad Pretoria to Cullinan and return. Departing at 08:00 and with a return departure at 15:15 (to be home by about 18:00), you will enjoy several hours in the pictuesque old mining village of Cullinan. Strole around, enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the cafes and restaurants or bring your picnic to the park. Braai fires also available.
You will board one of our 60-year-old railway coaches at our private Hermanstad Station a few kilometers north-west of the Pretoria city centre and settle into your seat, knowing that your car is safe on our gated premises and being looked after by our staff. One of our vintage steam locomotives will have chuffed-up and coupled onto the train. The guard has waved his flag, the loco whistle has blown and we're off!
You can sit back and completely relax as first the city and then the country-side slips effortlessly by, accompanied by the smells and sounds of the steam loco up-front. The coach wheels beneath rap gently over the rail joints -- clack-clack, clack-clack. You cannot help but enjoy train travel in the relaxed way it used to be. You enjoy a breakfast snack and sip hot coffee or cool refreshments from the on-board kiosk and answer your children's many excited questions. You may even sip at one of the "cold ones" you brought aboard in your own cooler box. And, you do not have to keep your eyes on the road. Before you know it, you are in Cullinan and you didn't even have to drive there. That wasn't just train-travel that you've experienced, that was time-travel as well! Indeed, with us you really do travel back in time. And... you do not have to dream it!
After your own choice of lunch venue in one of Cullinan's cafes, restaurants, pubs, picnic, braai... even Harry's or Wimpy, you reboard the train for the 15:15 departure back to Hermanstad. You arrive back at Hermanstad around 18:15. Your kids will have enjoyed a full, busy day and have fallen asleep to the sounds and the rocking of the train, leaving you to contemplate a really notalgic day out.

Ticket prices to Cullinan and return:
Adults: R250
Pensioners over 65 and disabled people: R200
Teens 13 to 18: R175
Children 7 to 12: R150
Children 2 to 6: R100
Infants under 2: free

This trip is approximately 2,5 to 3 hours in duration in each direction. Please note that we always make every effort to route our trips as advertised. However all routings and destinations are dependent upon the availability of the railway network's lines that we run over. In the event of network line closures or maintenance we may have to change the routing without necessarily giving advance notice.
