ABOUT

As we are approaching Africa Month it is important that we proudly celebrate the importance African Music.

uHadi is a South African bow instrument that was played by Xhosa women. Because we live in a world that evolves, over time men began to play uHadi like myself ( Odwa Bongo). Many uHadi songs were passed down by the elders to the younger generation who then also created their own personal music which at some point became community songs.

I have been privileged to have worked and shared the stage with South Africa’s prominent uHadi players such as Dr Latozi “Madosini” Mpahleni, Luyolo Lenga and Mthwakazi. They have also given me a number of Master classes on the instrument and traditional Xhosa music.

In partnership with Co’lab 22, my favorite vintage store in Cape Town, I will be sharing “An Intimate uHadi Experience” with my own compositions and compositions that I was taught by Dr Latozi “Madosini” Mpahleni and other bow masters. Not only will I be playing and singing, I will also be sharing with you some information on the uHadi bow and Xhosa music and it’s relation to African Music.

Please come early so that you can also enjoy a complimentary glass of wine the Makoti way.
