Stéfan Louw is a professional tenor who earns his living by singing opera in South Africa and abroad. He made his debut at the Pretoria State Theatre in 1999, when he was only 25, and received the prestigious FNB Vita Opera Award for Best Newcomer in Opera for that production. With more than 1,000 performances behind his name, Louw is a well-known face on opera stages and a sought-after vocal coach. In 2020, he started doing solo performances at private events like birthday and engagement parties to raise funds for his wife’s breast cancer treatment. She was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer in August 2019 and has been on treatment, which included a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and hormone-blocking therapy.
South African pianist and repetiteur Eugene Joubert made his European debut in November 2012 with performances of Candide (Bernstein) in Switzerland, in collaboration with Reakopana Opera and L’avant-scène opera, Neuchâtel. This was preceded by a series of performances in Pretoria, South Africa in August 2012. He has since appeared in productions of Faust (Gounod) with the TUT Department of Vocal Arts in 2013, Così fan tutte (Mozart) with Gauteng Opera, as well as La Traviata (Verdi) with Aria! Opera for Everyone, both in 2014. As resident pianist for Big Wig Opera, Eugene has appeared in productions of Werther (Massenet) in 2014, La Bohème (Puccini), L’elisir d’amore (Donizetti), and Madama Butterfly (Puccini), all in 2015.
