Saturday 12 December - 6PM

Denali
USA | 2015 | 7 min | Directed by Ben Knight

The bond between a man and his dog is a puppy love thing. But nothing can change the swak fact that we outlive our canine companions. And even though we may know this going into the relationship, saying goodbye is never easy. This hugely popular little film has gone seriously viral. Woof!

FISH
California, Hawaii, Australia | 2015 | HD | 82 min | Directed by Joseph Ryan

Ever wondered how the Fish came about? About 30 years ago, when hipsters were jazz musos and not gentrified millennials, the fish surfboard was born. Recently, with the rise of neatly bearded Bohemians in thrift store clothes who eat artisanal foods and klap a craft beer from time to time, the Fish has made a major comeback as part of retro chique. Even the surfing is hip when you have Dave Rastovich, Rob Machado and Donavon Frankenreiter in the mix. Chah bra!

Saturday 12 December - 8PM

O'Neill Unreasonable Project

World|2015|HD|20min

Take six non-surfing filmmakers and ask them to re-think the surf film genre based on the merit of their willingness to experiment in their other work. What do you get? Six epic short films that turn the genre on its head. The artists got bucks from O’Neill but kept creative control. Buckle in and hold tight. This rocket is fuelled by freedom to explore!

FLUX: Redefining women's surfing
Directed by Chad King, Sarah Lee, & Mia Montanile Hawaii | 2014 | 17 min

This hard-hitting doccy deconstructs the stereotyping of women by the surfing industry - remember the Stephanie Gilmore Roxy TV ad furore? As talent becomes an accessory to beauty, the sexualisation of women in surf media creates damaging effects for women surfers everywhere. Featuring the voices of female surf icons, Flux calls for change in how we think.

Into The Sea
Iran | 2014 | HD | 52 mins | Directed by Marion Poizeau

All African Premier

In 2011, when top Irish surfer Easkey Britton visited the enormous middle eastern country of Iran, there was no surf culture despite more than 2,000km of coast along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. In this fascinating doccie, she joins Iranian snowboarder Mona Seraji and Iranian diver Shalha Yasini on a mission to connect with others and break down cultural barriers. They are the pioneers - the first women to surf in Iran. Since then, surfing has taken off, big time.
