ABOUT

Christ Church Concerts proudly presents Liesl Stoltz and Jana van der Walt at Christ Church Constantia.

On their programme are works by Gluck, Ibert, Massenet, Debussy, Piazzolla, Bizet, Ravel, Monti and Nigel Hess.

Flautist LIESL STOLTZ grew up in a family devoted to classical music, leading to her love of the art. After dabbling in piano and violin, she began studying the flute at age 13 with Eva Tamassy. She furthered her studies in France with Shigenori Kudo, Pierre-Yves Artaud and Chantal Debushy at the École Normale de Musique de Paris: Alfred Cortot, and later trained in Italy with maestro Peter-Lukas Graf at the Accademia Internazionale Superiore di Musica: Lorenzo Perosi.

Not only was Liesl nominated for the GMT and SAMA awards in 2005 for her album Histoire du Tango with Portuguese classical guitarist Pedro Rodrigues, but her album Explorations – South African Flute Music (recorded with pianists Francois du Toit and José Dias, as well as harpist Jacqueline Kerrod), won the category “creative output” for the annual Humanities and Social Sciences awards from the Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences in 2017.

Other awards include first prize in the 12th Friedrich Kuhlau International Flute Competition in Germany, 3rd place in the 2007 International Flute Competition in Timisoara, Romania and finalist in the 2005 Leonardo de Lorenzo International Flute Competition in Italy, to name a few.

JANA VAN DER WALT is an accomplished musician and harpist based in Cape Town and began her musical tuition at the age of six. At age 11 she was introduced to the harp, and has since then pursued her love for the instrument with dedication and passion. She received a number of trophies for her harp playing and her orchestral experience has given her the opportunity to perform in some of the most recognisable concert halls in Europe, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Royal Palace in Stockholm, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.

In 2013 Jana founded harpNOTED – a successful vehicle through which she pursues solo and ensemble performances, with a variety music from classical to contemporary. HarpNOTED believes that every client should have exactly what they want, she is therefore comfortable to customize her ensemble options and music styles to every client's specific needs in order to create a timeless and perfect event-suited atmosphere.

Her current involvement in the music community of the Mother City includes being an ad hoc member of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, forming part of various ensembles with a number of acclaimed musicians, and performing on a regular basis as soloist at a range of different concerts, events and festivals. Apart from her involvement with the arts Jana is also an accomplished architect practicing at an award-winning firm in Cape Town.
