ABOUT

THE BROTHER MOVES ON [LIVE AT UNTITLED BASEMENT] 4TH DECEMBER 2020 [Set 1: 19H00 / Set 2: 21H00]

The Brother Moves On is finally on the move again after a seven-year recording hiatus. The collective has a new lease on life having recorded two new albums, a retrospective of the South African jazz tradition with Matsuli Records featuring Bokani Dyer and Mthunzi Mvubu, and their sophomore album due out on another UK boutique label in 2021. The collective is part of the “Indaba Is” compilation due out on Brownswood Recordings in January 2021 having recorded a track with Thandi Ntuli entitled “Umthandazo Wamagenge” as an ode to the tradition and its intersection with the streets.

In thanksgiving for a fruitful year, the band will perform as their stripped-down 4 piece act under the title “Liberation Burns Slow” featuring Ayanda Zalekile on vox & bass, Simphiwe Tshabalala on vox & drums, Siyabonga Mthembu on vox & chants, Zelizwe Mthembu on vox and guitar.

“Liberation Burns Slow” is a celebration of the end of a seven-year cycle for The Brother Moves On. Their debut album “A New Myth” was released 7 years ago on the 5th of December 2013 and this event marks the end of 7 years of famine and opens the gates to 7 years of abundance for a band that has dealt with grief and loss having lost 2 essential angels of the band in Nkululeko Mthembu and Shonisani Lethole. This gig is a message to the energies that makudede ubumyama kuvele ukukhanya. Positive Energy Activates Constant Elevation, ubhuti uyahamba.

A Note From Untitled Basement

Untitled Basement is open under the revised Covid 19 Lockdown Regulations for Live events, we now operate at 50% capacity. The unintended benefits of the new capacity is the ability to experience rare live music performances with limited audience capacity. The downside with limited capacity is revenue shortfall for the Artists, so we are implementing 2 shows (sets) per night, of one hour each. Guests are required to book a ticket for each set, though one set is as valuable and a rich experience as expected from Untitled Basement and the featured Artists. Ticket prices have also been adjusted to address the shortfall. We are grateful for your support of our establishment and the live music and broader arts community.
