The Dirkie and Carly DUO Instrumental collaboration was formed in 2018.


The Dirkie and Carly duo are regularly booked for high profile events as they are known for their eclectic, upbeat and elegant instrumental performances, while taking their many years of Classical training into a new and fun crossover Pop culture context. 

 

The visual impact of what The Dirkie and Carly Duo do on one guitar and one violin mesmerizes audiences all over. They showcase the virtuoso technical possibilities on theirinstruments, while wooing their audiences with classic love songs and is a must see live act. Showmanship, and repertoire tailor created to fit the event, are some of what this duo are about.

 

 

Dirkie Van Staden 

HonsBMus in Music Education, Cum Laude – and BMus

in Classical Guitar, University of Stellenbosch. 

Dirkie is a multi- instrumentalist and music teacher specialising in Guitar, originally from Cape Town, SA. Between 2017 and 2019 Dirkie was part of the Internationally acclaimed guitar duo CH2, performing live on Expresso, SABC, Juke Box, Ontbytsake, RSG, Classic FM 1027, Fine Music Radio, and various other radio stations. Their composition “Green

Eyed Panter” reached No.7 on the top 10 on a leading Australian radio

station. Their 2019 album “Starstruck” will also be entered for the

GRAMMYS in 2020. Dirkie is a versatile guitarist with a very distinctive and unique

rhythmic playing style, Nuevo flamenco

pop and Spanish rasgueado technique. His rhythmic guitar

mastery became one of the cornerstones of all the duos and

musical groups that he is part of. 


Dirkie is Head of Music at a school outside Preoria called Ermelo, where he teaches workshops and masterclasses and is also an orchestral conductor. He was previously a

full time music teacher and windband conductor at Paarl Boys’ High for 10 years.

 

(Since 2009 Dirkie performs professionally in duos together with various

award winning violinists in i.a. the WORLD@SOUTH duo, STRINGS ON FIRE, Dirkie & Talisa released an album called Pop Classics in 2014, another duo with Roelof Swart en Rick Kleynhans called DigaRitmo Guitar Duo, Dirkie released an album in 2011 with various original compositions. 

Dirkie and his duos have had television appearances on Fiesta, Overture, E-TV, C-TV, as wellas radio broadcasts on RSG).  

 

Carly Nauta, Contemporary Act: Crossover Electric Violinist, and Traditional Acoustic Violinist from Cape Town, SA.

Carly Violinist has been a regular addition to events locally and internationally since 2010.

Highlights include playing solo for the prince of Arabia at his resort on the Seychelles Island, performing solo for brands like Samsung, Johnson & Johnson, Huawei, the late Pam Golding herself, Merchant Factors and Mergence Investment Managers, as well as the largest Catamaran in the Southern Hemisphere, The Mirage.

In 2015 to 2017, Carly played over 450 live shows back to back after being invited to join the Barnyard Theatre Company as resident violinist. The position included performing shows six days per a week in a star studded cast of 11 professional performers while travelling between the major cities in South Africa. 

Carly was originally Classically trained on violin (Trinity College Exam Syllabus) and piano (Royal Schools Exam Syllabus) from 1996 to 2009 at school and at the renowned Beau-Soleil Music Centre in Kenilworth where she was also a member of the string orchestra. 

Her education includes studies with Patrick Goodwin, Farida Bacharova, Alex Fokkens and Kathleen Garrity on violin, and Dr Franklin Larey, Lisa Garson, Lucy Norton and Jean Cohen on piano, and most recently Music Teacher training with Kim Malan.
