Compendium of the Carol at Middelvlei

On Sunday the 6th of December Middelvlei Wine Estate is once again hosting their famous Middelvlei Carols. But this year's event is going to be special: not only are we pairing a five-course Christmas feast with our finest selection, but with the help of the eclectic Baroque folk band Here be Dragons we are also pairing it with specific Christmas Carols!

The day promises to be packed full of fun for the whole family, and we ask that all parents please bring a small gift for each of their children with the child's name clearly marked on it. These can be handed in on arrival at the event and will be given out by Father Christmas when he comes to greet the children on his red tractor.

The show will begin just after sunset, and guests will be treated to a program of obscure and lesser-known ancient Christmas Carols as each course is served, along with a selection of Middelvlei Estate's finest wines, expertly paired with the music to create a musical, culinary and enological journey to hail in the festive season. The group will also play one or two well-known Christmas favourites, and for those audience participation is encouraged! After all, what is a Christmas concert without some carolling...

Event details:

18:30 - Guests arrive for sundowners

19:15 - Father Christmas arrives to give out presents

20:00 - Guests are seated and the concert begins

21:30 - Concert ends

22:00 - Event Closes

Please note that we offer a non-alcoholic option, and also a vegan or vegetarian alternative for the set menu. These are different ticket options when you checkout, be sure to choose the correct one!

Here Be Dragons is a Stellenbosch based early music ensemble that specialises in performing period music in a folk idiom. They have performed at festivals such as the Stellenbosch Woordfees and the Greyton/Genadendal Classics for All festival, and in 2019 returned for a second year to the Cape Town Baroque Festival, where they gave a sold out performance of the show Folk101 at the Youngblood Art Gallery: you can read the review here. They were very active online during lockdown, and in October they reopened the Christ Church Concerts live concert series after nearly eight months with their hugely successful show Folk 101.
