The 1st Funofficial Hill Climb Challenge


TCN presents Double Loop Challenge at Suikerbosrand


Everyone Welcome!


Come and join in the fun of TCN's 1st Hill Climb Challenge, on Saturday 28th November.


This is a fun challenge for those brave enough to take on 2,228m of climbing.


Ticket price includes entrance to the reserve as well as water points and nutrition stations place at +/-30km (single loop) and 35km (parking area), 64km and 110km for the Double loop.


There will be a mechanical station at the water points.


Each rider will be supplied with an arm band which will allow you entrance, and access to the water points.


Test yourself against others and become the King of Mountain (KoM) or Queen of Mountain (QoM) for the TCN Funofficial Hill Climb Challenge, sponsored by your mum, dad, or spouse.


The fastest male and female in each age category will receive a small prize, after all, this is just a bit of fun. (To be announced)


Everyone is responsible for their own safety, as this is a fun guerrilla event.

Post your Strava rides on https://www.facebook.com/thecyclistsnetwork/ and you could win a spot prize. Winners will be announced as soon as possible after the results are in, hopefully everyone does upload to Strava immediately. The winners will be notified on Strava by all the Kudos they receive.


All riders are welcome to join us for drinks afterward at Cafe du Cirque from 1pm.



Q: What are the distances for the rides:

A: There are 2 distances: 55km & 130km

GPX files will be supplied to follow the route.


Q: ARE THERE GROUP START TIMES?

A: There are no specific group start times. You ride with whom ever you choose. Everyone starts at the same time. Think of it as a Saturday morning group ride. Ride with your friends or family or riders you feel comfortable with.


Q: IS THERE A CUT OF TIME?

A: Depending on yor fitness, and average rider will complete the 55km in no more than 3h30min. The double loop of 130km should not take you longer than 6h30min. You should be back no later than 1230pm.


Q: WHERE DO ME MEET UP?

A: 55km riders will gather at 7am in the parking lot of Suikerbosrand

A: 130km riders will gather at Café du Cirque at 6am




Bike Events Rules of the Ride


By entering this ride you agree to these rules:







  • REMEMBER it is NOT A RACE. Be a good advert for cycling and show consideration to other road users and to other cyclists who may be less experienced than you.
  • Obey the Highway Code and warning signs, but be aware that the absence of either Bike Events' or statutory signage does not signal the absence of any risks ahead.
  • Pay due attention to the road ahead and to other road users; the roads are open to other traffic and you must ride with your own and others' safety in mind.
  • No Helmet, No Ride
  • We advise you to ride in single file - NEVER ride more than two abreast and do NOT attempt any dangerous passing or cross the centre line of the road.
  • Keep a safe distance between you and other cyclists at all times, as some may be inexperienced.
  • The ride is NOT a race - MODERATE YOUR SPEED, especially on downhill sections.
  • Signal any intention to turn left or right and DON'T STOP SUDDENLY as there may be traffic / other riders directly behind you.
  • You MUST bring a full water bottle and any necessary medication with you.
  • You MUST display your arm band number on the day.
  • Do NOT wear headphones while cycling.
  • Riders 16 or under MUST be accompanied by an adult over 18, and MUST WEAR A HELMET.
  • Check your bike is in good order, especially the brakes and get it serviced before the event. If you require help, get off the road and call the Emergency Number.
  • Respect the local environment, refreshment stop facilities, fellow cyclists and road users. Take litter home with you.








By entering this ride you agree to these rules and the following conditions:


I understand that this event is not a race and all riders must obey the Highway Code and the Bike Events Rules of the Road. Cycling can be a dangerous activity and I accept that the organisers cannot be held responsible for personal injury, accident, loss, damage or public liability. Riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.


All riders aged 65 or over on the date of the ride and any rider with a medical condition or unsure of their physical ability to take part in the bike ride must take medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the event.  Entry fees are non-refundable.


TCN vents reserve the right to cancel / change the date of events / change the planned route and start and/or finish venue due to circumstances beyond our control. In the event of modification, cancellation or postponement of a ride, Bike Events will offer a transfer to another event or a full refund. TCN Events will not be liable for any costs incurred as a result of such modification, postponement or cancellation.


Photographs taken on the route by TCN Events, may be used for publicity purposes by either of one these organisations. Please email us if you have any objections or concerns about this.


If I have symptoms of Covid-19 I will not take part in the event. I agree to my name and phone number being available to the organisers.
