Is there a moment quite as keen
Or memory as bright
As light and fire and music sweet
To warm the winter's night?
We dance ever slower as the leaves fall and spin
And the sound of the Horn is the wailing of the wind;
The Earth is wrapped in stillness and we move in a trance,
but we hold on fast to our faith in the dance.
Fairies on root and Mother City crawlers alike, we are the bird of fire, just in another light.
For centuries, the Winter Solstice has been celebrated by civilisations across the globe. What is known as Yule in Pagan belief is in fact the oldest winter festival in history marking a time for new beginnings and change for observers and beings of all walks of life. The change of the seasons is significant for a number of reasons, both literal and metaphorical. During this period, the sun is “born again,” awakening us to the fact that nature is ever-shifting; reminding us that to evolve and flourish, we must move with nature and dance to the deity’s divine rhythm.
The celebration of the Solstice serves to reconnect people with planet through a process of ritual, reflection and renewal. As the sun returns, a divine source of creation and life, we give thanks to the universe for its transformation and revival. Just as our physical senses must adapt to the elements that be, so must our focus and understanding change as we begin to perceive the world in a new light once more.
Join us as we celebrate this process of reawakening at the Phoenix Festival of Fire 2016.
