ABOUT

South Africa’s economy has experienced a hard knock in 2020, starting with its downgrade credit

rating in early March, to its recession after its economy experienced a fall in its GDP earlier this year, then COVID-19’s lockdown effects made the economy take an even deep dive into recession. Thus many businesses struggling to stay afloat causing South African business to enter into “retrenchment season”.

Dealing with the retrenchment season in an organisation may seem to be an ideal measure for business survival, yet it poses the risks of litigation by employees and labour organisations. This virtual seminar aims to equip participants with the latest insights to avoid ‘unfair’ labour practices and to save their business. Our key speakers will tackle retrenchment during difficult business seasons such as the one South Africa is faced with now. Participants will be equipped to avoid unfair labour practices during retrenchments that could lead to litigations and will also present proposed interventions to make their business sustainable.

Speakers include Professor Tshoose (Labour Law and Security Law professor) and Mathabo Makwela (Commissioner at CCMA)
