ABOUT

Become a Fund-Runner & support Zip Zap Circus' Zappers programme with every kilometre you run!

Zip Zap Circus is a free social circus school in Cape Town, founded in 1992, that offers free programmes to children and youth. For 28 years, we have managed to keep our doors open for over 2000 children each year across 10 programmes, with funding being sourced from grants, donors and shows.

This year Covid-19 has stopped us in our tracks so we have had to think out of the box and find innovative and exciting ways to not only generate income but also share the joy of circus magic during these times. Our programmes have been suspended since early March, yet with a carefully planned phased-approach, we're getting ready to open our doors for our Zappers.

We need your help to not only spread the circus magic, but to support our fundraising to keep our doors open. Jump on the virtual Cape Town Marathon bandwagon! Run your chosen distance (5km, 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km) any time between 6am and 1:30pm on Sunday 18 October and be a part of the Zip Zap Fund-Runners!

You're welcome to start & finish your run at the Zip Zap Dome where free parking & toilet facilities will be available from 5:30am. We will have Zip Zap Motivation Stations along the Atlantic Seaboard (locations to be shared with confirmed Fund-Runners) which will provide snacks & beverages exclusively to Cape Town Fund-Runners to help keep the energy pumping and the magic alive!

While there is no Zip Zap registration fee to sign up, runners will be required to commit to raising funds for Zip Zap by completing your participant form here on Quicket.

Not only will this be the most rewarding run you've ever done, but all Cape Town Fund-Runners will receive a goodie bag, AND there will be a lucky draw! Every R500 raised will get you an entry into the draw.

A little bit about the Zappers programme:

ZAPPERS is a YOUTH DEVELOPMENT project, targeting youth between the age of 10 and 18, and is aimed at identifying and nurturing talent within Zip Zap youth programmes. Zappers, a small group of +- 30 participants identified as committed, dedicated and with exceptional potential, is focused on imparting high-level circus expertise to youth with exceptional talent to create new acts, new shows and new artists, using Zip Zap expertise, a pool of international visiting artists and e-learning. We offer the opportunity for intensive training from local and international industry professionals and performance opportunities. The specific aim of this programme is to develop a core group of youth performers with a high level of circus skills.

Globally, wellness and opportunities are defined by our socioeconomic status. The Zappers initiative works to close the access-to-opportunity gap between the rich and the poor by providing free high-level circus tuition to all children regardless of income. The Zappers program is free so that children with potential, irrespective of their socioeconomic backgrounds race, or ethnicity have access to the extensive benefits of circus arts at an early age and use them to build positive habits that last a lifetime.
