About Ann Marais

Multi-media sculptor, curator, writer and critic for ceramic publications and Ceramics Southern Africa Fellow, Ann Marais has extensive knowledge and experience in ceramics having worked with clay as a medium since 1970. Her work has landed her several international group shows and awards.

Her works between 2005 and 2017 featured sculptures with focus on the human figure and the landscape of our minds in porcelain clay and now in what she calls her fourth wave of figurative sculptures she is turning to the complexities of animals other than humans. Through this journey in sculpting 'non-human persons' she is exploring the empathy we can show other animals we share a planet with.

Join her in this one hour video work-shop where she will share some of her sculpting processes and techniques as well as some of her ideas behind the theme of animals created with tender care.
