Please note: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Lindy Hop tracks are SOLD OUT for follows. There are still a few spaces for leads and there is space in the Solo Jazz track.
 

In March 2016 the Cape Town Swing community will be welcoming local swing dancers and lindy hopping globetrotters to our beautiful city for a weekend of top class instruction, live music and parties. The festival will be the first of its kind in South Africa and will be preceeded by a week of tailor-made sightseeing tours lead by our local dancers.

We met our crowdfunding goal on Indiegogo, establishing significant local and international interest in the event. We've sold tickets to dancers from all over the world, including the US, UK, South Africa, Germany, France, Belgium, Mozambique, Sweden, Russia, Holland, Spain, Brazil, Reunion, Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, Norway and Canada!

NORMA & CHAZZ:
Thanks to support from the Frankie Manning Foundation, we will be welcoming Norma Miller (96) and Chazz Young (83) to Cape Town for the first time. This will be a truly historic moment, as these legends of the Swing Era meet with Southern African lindy hoppers for the first time.

TEACHERS:
We’ll be welcoming these stellar teachers to Cape Town: Peter Strom & Naomi Uyama, Thomas Blacharz & Eglé Nemickaité, and Remy Kouakou Kouame.



CLASSES:
There will be four tracks over the weekend: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Lindy Hop, and a Solo Jazz track. Each track will include 8 hours of swing dancing classes. There will also be 6 hours of taster classes that will include Authentic Jazz and African Dance.

PARTIES:
We’ll be throwing 3 swingtastic parties in different venues around the city, with live bands, top DJs, dance performances and stacks of social dancing. More details to follow.

TOURS:
In the week leading up to the festival our local dancers will be running tailor-made tours to help you explore the city and surrounds while you get to know your fellow dance travelers. This package includes 4 days of all-inclusive tours:

• Tuesday 15th: Hike up one of the spectacular trails to the top of Table Mountain to see the peninsula from above. Or take the cable car if you want to save your energy for the parties!
• Wednesday 16th: Explore perfect beaches, meet quirky penquins and cheeky baboons on the Cape Peninsula, the southwestern tip of Africa which separates the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.
• Thursday 17th: Cape Town is steeped in history and there are many must-see sites, including Robben Island (where Madiba was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 years in prison), the District 6 Museum, and the historic Slave Lodge. We’ll follow this up with a picnic at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
• Friday 18th: Join us for some wine and chocolate tastings on the world's longest wine route in the Stellenbosch Winelands.

Full Pass: Access to all classes in the track for your level (beginner/intermediate/advanced); all taster classes, and the parties each night. Please note: tickets are now only available for leads.
All Star Pass (SOLD OUT): The whole cahoot: a full pass (classes and parties); tour package and a limited-edition Mother City Hop t-shirt.
LITE Pass: 8 hours of classes in Lindy Hop or Solo Jazz; entrance to the Saturday night party. (Does not include Taster classes or the other three evening events.) Please note: tickets are now only available for leads.
Taster & Party Pass: Access to all taster classes during the weekend, as well as the parties each night.
Party Pass: Access to every party, which will feature live bands, prominent DJs and performances by professional dancers.
Tour Package (SOLD OUT): Our city was voted the #1 travel destination in the New York Times last year. Explore it with us! We’ll take you around the heart of the Mother City, the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands. You’ll get to swing out on the beach and on Table Mountain and taste fine wine and chocolate.
Sponsor a dancer: Help us improve our scene’s accessibility by sponsoring a local dancer to join the festival, who would otherwise not afford a ticket.
