Ever wanted to learn how to play brushes, but didn't know where to start? Well, look no further! In this drum workshop, we will be looking at how to develop and practice simple brush techniques so that you can explore and experiment with new sounds. Brushes aren't just for playing jazz, either. The workshop will also touch on how brushes can be useful in pop, folk, rock, Brazilian and various other styles with musical examples and demonstrations.

About the host:
Jarryd West is a professional freelance and touring musician. Since graduating from UCT's jazz school, he has traveled locally and abroad performing and recording on the drum set in a wide range of musical styles. Most recently, he has worked on the acclaimed international tour of Matilda: The Musical, and previously worked on/with: West Side Story at Artscape, the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, local band Emerger's new album "Bloom" and numerous appearances in the local Cape Town jazz scene. Jarryd's refined and improvisatory approach lends a fresh and practical perspective to the more complex conceptual approaches to modern drum set playing, informed by his own experiences as a touring and recording musician.
