Our Inspiring Authors

Dr Amit Patel - London

Dr Amit Patel is a disability rights campaigner, fundraiser, independent diversity, inclusion and accessibility consultant and motivational speaker.

During his time at Cambridge University Medical School Amit was diagnosed with Keratoconus, an eye condition that is easily treated with a corneal transplant. However, he was one of the rare individuals for whom the transplanted rejected and he was registered blind in 2013.

After coming to terms with his sight loss, Amit set out to help others that were new to sight loss by volunteering with the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in England.

Amit lives in London with his wife, two children and his Guide Dog Kika.

Kika & Me – By Dr Amit Patel

Dr Patel’s inspiring book tells the story of how an extraordinary Guide Dog changed his world.

Lois Strachan – Cape Town

What would you do if you opened your eyes one morning and found you couldn’t see a thing?

When Lois Strachan lost her sight at the age of 21 she had to figure out how to live as a blind person in a sighted world. As an inspirational speaker, author and workshop facilitator Lois speaks openly about the reality of being blind and inspires her audiences to see their own lives in a different way, allowing them to reach beyond their challenges to success.

Lois is a disability advocate who is passionate about facilitating the inclusion of those who live with blindness or low vision into the workplace and the community.

A Different Way of Seeing – By Lois Strachan

In this delightfully quirky and entertaining book Lois shares some of the secrets she discovered about how to live an “ordinary” life in an extraordinary way despite her blindness.

Tersia Van Der Westhuizen - Pretoria

Sheba, about a dog

Tersia of Rietfontein began writing children’s stories at the age of 18, and Sheba, about a dog, is her latest book.

The book describes what dogs mean to people and what they can be – anything from a guide dog for blind people to a pet.

The story also contains a big life lesson.
