ABOUT

SIMON VAN GEND - VOCALS AND GUITAR
ROSS CAMPBELL - STRIPPED DOWN DRUM KIT AND CAJON

For the last 25 years, Cape Town’s Simon van Gend has been quietly working at his songwriting, gaining an underground following of dedicated fans, and putting out 4 albums of original songs. His most recent album “Blinking and Breathing” was recorded with his band “Simon & the Bande à Part” by Australian producer Ian Pritchett (Angus & Julia Stone, Beautiful Girls).

Between February 2014 and February 2105 Simon wrote a new song every week and posted it to his blog (www.asongaweek.simonvangend.com). During this time he also did tours of the US east coast and Germany. The band is busy recording a new album of the best of the songs from the 'Song a Week' project and will be releasing it on the 3rd of September this year.

“You stumble across one of his delightful pop songs on a friend’s computer and you wonder: why isn’t Simon van Gend better known? This new album is kiffness personified” Toast Coetzer – Rolling Stone
“It’s the songs that take you by surprise.  Persuasive without being preoccupied, full of words without being wordy, delivering life’s lessons without being preachy, they never quite go where you expect.” – Richard Haslop, Audio Video

HOUSE CONCERTS  AT THE RESERVOIR
ADDRESS AND PARKING
The address is “The Reservoir”, No 1 Dressage Close Constantia.  NB The entrance is on Spaanschemat River Road, and our house is on the corner.
Parking will be outside our gates, but we will have a car guard keeping watch.
Spaanschemat River Rd runs past a big open field between Firgrove Rd and Dressage Close. There will be space to park off the road between Nova Constantia Rd and Dressage Close. There isn’t a pavement, so you can simply turn off the road and park under the trees, on the same side of the road as our house. The guard will be able to point you in the right direction.
ARRIVAL TIME  - 5.30 pm will be great, for the music to begin at about 6.15 pm
This will give everyone time to settle in, socialise a bit, and find a seat . Seating is not reserved, so it’s good to arrive early. We can seat 60 people in chairs and sofas,  and squeeze in a few more on cushions if necessary!
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING ENOUGH CASH TO COVER YOUR DONATION FOR THE SHOW! We have a cool donations bucket, and your payment is made in the interval or at the end of the show :)

CORN DOGS FOR R50 - A VEGETARIAN OPTION WILL BE AVAILABLE!  Or you can bring your own finger food :) It’s best to keep that simple, as there won’t be tables to sit at.
Spring water and ice will be available.
The music will start about 45 MINS  after people arrive, and there will be 2 sets lasting about 40/45 mins. There will be an interval when you can eat and drink, and if the weather is fine, please bring a picnic blanket so you can sit outside and enjoy our lovely garden.
NB We recommend that you bring a cushion to sit on, because most of the chairs are wooden and not padded.
