NOAH Neighbourhood old age homes

ABOUT

Noah old age home is a non-profit organisation that undertakes to look after the aged who are unable to look after themselves.
The residents at Noah generally receive a pension of only around R1420.00 per month to live on- it’s hard to imagine how they would get by without help from Noah
Even with the wonderful assistance from Noah, these old age pensioners have pretty much nothing left over at the end of the month.
The aged are very often forgotten when it comes to charity, and at Christmas time they are some of the people most in need of some Christmas spirit. For many of the residents they have been abandoned by their families and are seen as a burden, so Christmas can be a very lonely time for them.
Last year a group of us got together to try to get some Santa shoeboxes for the residents of the assisted living facility at Noah- they soon grew in size and became baskets instead of shoeboxes!
The assisted living facility  in Woodstock is for the residents of Noah who need a certain degree of supervision and help.
We had a great amount of support from friends and family as well as from a few small businesses. The 21 residents were completely blown away by their Christmas gifts (I've attached a small video and below is the thank you letter that went out to all our sponsors/helpers)
This year Noah is once again not in a position to hold a proper Christmas party for the residents, so we are hoping to be able to hand out wonderful Christmas boxes as well as host a Christmas party at the facility in Woodstock.
What are we asking for:
  • According to our calculations and our experience from last year, each box will cost around R180.00 and there are 21 residents in the facility
We are looking for people to sponsor a Christmas box (or a group to get together and sponsor one)
Obviously any amount will be welcome
  • We need all of the boxes to be identical, which is why we ask for funding instead of items. However, if someone has 21 of the same items that they would like to donate, we will not say no J
The kind of things that we will be putting in the baskets are toiletries, biscuits and treats, socks, something like aftershave or perfume, note books and pens, gloves etc.
We would also like to include something special- last year we gave each resident their own clock radio, which was a huge hit. This year we’ll decide on the big item depending on the funds raised. Maybe something like a nice warm blanket for winter.
Money will also be spent on a Christmas party for the residents in Woodstock, and if we have any money left over we would love to make up some communal baskets of household goods for the independent-living homes.
We really appeal to anyone and everyone who would be willing to help us with this cause.
