Covi D'Locks & The Three Bears: Adult Pantomime 2020
For more than two decades the Durban Adult Panto has been a feature of the Festive Season – a reason to let your hair down and party the night away watching a show which took a traditional fairy tale and turned it upside down and inside out to reveal a very naughty underbelly. Now in its 24th year, the Adult Panto is rolling with the times and is yet again to set the stage on fire with laughter and great entertainment.
Staged in the quaint supper theatre venue [email protected] situated in Silver Ave, Stamford Hill the show guarantees a fabulous evening of light-hearted entertainment before partying the night away in the venue.
The Adult Panto has become “tradition” in Durban and attracts loads of locals and visitors. Over the years it has been staged in various venues/theatres until it became a flag-ship production at the local casino of a period of 5 years. Sadly, due to renovations at the venue the team again had to find new premises. Luckily [email protected] opened its doors providing a quaint 60 seater supper theatre venue since 2016 and allows us to truly forget our cares and chuckle away at the on-stage antics.
The show serves well as a year-end function to corporate companies and patrons are encouraged to bring snack baskets along. The lay-out this year takes special care of social distancing providing seating at tables for 8 people. A cash bar is available.
MORE ABOUT THIS YEAR’S THE SHOW
In the past the Panto has been based on a traditional fairy tale. This year, the script has been captured by the fairy tale of the Rainbow Nation. Be prepared for an experience with an edgy and a provocative sting. Entitled, “Covi D’Locks & The Three Bears”, the team has created a potjie filled with delicious South African flavours spiced with sarcasm, innuendo and double entendres.
A totally new look at a blonde girl who eagerly wanders into a bear invested forest, daring to eat their porridge, sit on their chairs and sleep on their beds without any fear whatsoever! Rather irrational is what most courts will find!
The show features Pinkie Mtshali with her unique performing style showing off not only her versatile vocal ability but also her talent as a wonderful 'Seller of Songs'; her funny and energetic presence is a beautiful addition to the team. Back on the Durban theatre scene, the Adult Panto introduces the hilarious and multi-talented Tommy Kyd. Tommy studied drama at DUT after which he has been seen on the Johannesburg stages as well as in several TV and film productions. On stage in his 22nd pantomime for grown-ups is entertainer extraordinaire, Anthony Stonier. Designed, compiled and directed by Thomie Holtzhausen (also seen on stage) “Covi D’Locks & The Three Bears" is exactly what is needed to end 2020.
