The 3^rd edition of the Smart Cities Africa Summit returns, bigger and virtual this time around. The 2018 and 2019 editions were a great successes which was exemplified by the number of senior business executives in attendance as well as, high commissioners, ambassadors, mayors.

There is going to be a substantial shift for the 2020 edition, due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the summit will take the virtual route and this will mean engagement with a wider audience on the African continent. Aboard this great initiative we have a strong community of leading partners including governments, businesses, academic institutions, and different industry bodies in order to achieve success.

There is scarcely an aspect of life that has not been thoroughly disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis has also dramatically exposed the degree to which cities/municipalities, citizens and businesses are relying on connected technology to carry on. As rapid and profound as these recent shifts have been, they may just be early indications of how technology could potentially transform societies in the months and years ahead.

As the number of infections and deaths surge, governments are turning to technology and innovative approaches for help. Cities have borne the burden of the COVID-19 outbreak. Apart from addressing strategies of building resilient African smart cities, one of the fundamental questions this summit seeks to address is, how innovative technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, open data, and analytics among others, can help cities to respond to pandemics more effectively? Every industry has its must- attend event and Smart Cities Africa Summit is Africa’s must-attend event.
