ABOUT

"From Koe'siestes To Kneidlach" tells the bizarre, comedic and true story of what happens when a girl from the Cape Flats gets involved with a Jew-ish boy from Joburg’s East Rand.

'Chantal' navigates a world of new Jewish experiences – from meeting the boyfriend’s family at her first shabbos ever to late-night benching (no, not the gym kind)! She wrestles with confusion over her identity and the various labels that are placed on her while trying to understand Yiddish (oy vey!), gefilte fish and decades-old faribels! She tries to get to grips with a culture and heritage that is so vastly different to her own, all the while celebrating and laughing at her own background too. Along the way we meet the omnipresent voice of her mother, her gay best friend and her first Rabbi.

This uniquely South African, one-woman 'kosher comedy' is written and performed by familiar face Chantal Stanfield and directed by Megan Furniss. "From Koe'siestes To Kneidlach" was first co-produced by Daphne Kuhn and Kizara Kreative to great success at Theatre on the Square in Joburg in 2017, before enjoying a great festive season run at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town from 2017-18.

This pre-recorded show with a live audience was performed in 2018 at the Baxter Theatre . The duration is 1h10. We aim to raise funds for the two amazing theatres who co-produced and hosted this piece, as well as the Kizara Kreative production team.
