ABOUT

Emergency response volunteers need your help

EVS is hard at work responding to emergencies and helping bring relief during the lockdown in South Africa. Would you consider donating to enable them to continue responding to the extraordinary demand for their services?

For the past decade, EVS has responded to emergencies and disasters. The NPC trains people from all walks of life, with a focus on young people in vulnerable areas, in particular Ocean View, Red Hill and Masiphumelele, to build an alternative to the influence of gang-related activity.

EVS has been called on to help even more the past few months. Teams have assisted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by:

  • Ensuring emergency food supplies get to soup kitchens in vulnerable communities, particularly Red Hill, Masiphumelele and Ocean View
  • Providing immediate localised emergency medical response
  • Transporting people to hospitals
  • Bringing water to areas with homeless people
  • Providing standby fire crews to support fire brigades in the Overberg who may be affected by staff shortages

As a result, EVS needs funding now in order to continue responding to emergencies in this critical time. Donations will keep the EVS transporter on the road with plenty of fuel, and also provide additional sanitizer and personal protective equipment.

Thank you very much for your support.

More About EVS:

We are everyday people, emergency and disaster response volunteers serving those who need our help.

What we do:

  • We work closely with METRO EMS in the greater Cape Town area.
  • We assist the local and regional fire brigades, National Parks and their teams of contractors and staff particularly during wildfire season.
  • We help prevent and combat informal settlement fires.
  • We are Wilderness First Responders.
  • We help with incident relief services where called upon to do so.

We’re well trained, well disciplined and willing to give of our time to serve our communities. We also get involved with community projects to help make a difference to the lives of those who live around us — for example with the Kids are Kids NPO’s Easter Hunt. We partner with Rotary and assist with the Dragon Boat Regattas, marshaling at the Cape Cycle Tour amongst others. We build partnerships such as with EnviroWildfire and WildMedix. Through this all we expose our members to other opportunities, and sometimes this leads someone to a new career in the emergency services.

We make a difference. A small difference perhaps, but a meaningful difference. We grow. We learn. We give back.
