ABOUT

In 1999 Francois Hugo founded the Seal Centre in the harbour of Hout Bay South Africa.

This operation was solely there for the rescue and rehabilitation, into the wild, of the Cape Fur Seal, which lives off the west coast of South Africa.

Sadly Francois Hugo passed away in 2018. He was instrumental in pioneering a way to protect these beloved animals and his love of seals was beyond reproach. He will be remembered and his legacy will be honoured and continued through the dedication of all who support that our efforts.

Today, the Seal Centre has been re-named The Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre and is currently being operated by a group of the most wonderful volunteers who are caring for, and rehabilitating, the pups and yearlings that are currently calling the center home.

The Centre will continue to work closely with Dr Greg Hoffmeyer from Bayworld and Mr Jacques Nel from the Westcoast Environmental Project and the DEA.

All of these organisations support the registration and work The Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre is continuing to do.

The Hout Bay Seal Rescue Centre currently has 3 month old pups and yearlings being cared for.

Daily operations include, but are not limited to:

Feeding the seal pups at the centre

Administering medication to ill animals

Cleaning and maintaining centre

The centre is run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With your help, we will be able to purchase much-needed supplies, medication and food to enable us to continue with our rescue and rehabilitation efforts for these beautiful animals.
