Did you know that depression is almost twice as likely to affect women than men and tends to have different contributing causes in women than it does in men?
Mental illness is one of the most neglected and often ignored health issues in most societies. Generally, when we think of mental illness, we think it is a sign of weakness, or that a person with a mental illness is ”crazy” and more likely to be dangerous and violent than a person who does not suffer from mental illness.
Join us as we unravel depression particularly in a woman's world. In this segment, we focus on depression in women and answer some really important questions with the aim of creating more awareness and encouraging women to seek help.
Guest Speaker: Sikander Kalla (Clinical Psychologist)
Mr Sikander Kalla is a HPCSA-registered clinical psychologist. Sikander became interested in subfields such as neuropsychology, personality pathology, and sexual health. It was this interest that led him to enrol for courses which he found particularly stimulating upon commencing with his honours degree, namely, Personality and Psychopathology, as well as Cognitive Neuroscience. Sikander’s postgraduate coursework was complimented by postgraduate research with a public health focus–specifically revolving around the intersection of psychological variables and reproductive decision making. Sikander currently practices within the Sandton region at various clinical settings such as Mindful Psychology Practice, The Couch (Practice of Psychology and Psychiatry), the Wanderers Sports Medical Centre, and Sandton Mediclinic private hospital. He also practices in neighbouring clinical settings such as Akeso Parktown.
We will take a deep dive and focus on:
- Causes of depression
- Types of depression
- Symptoms of depression
- Treatments and therapy
- Social issues around depression.
- And so much more...
There will also be a Q&A section where you can ask specific questions that will be answered by a registered clinical psychologist and speaker, Sikander Kalla
