We are HARARE KIDZ COLLEGE.

A self-funded NPO and Educare facility in the impoverished township of Dunoon in Cape Town, South Africa. (NPO number 227-020).

We tackle every day with a passion to create a brighter future for the bright eyed children from this diverse and challenged- but also dynamic and creative community.

  • AND YOU CAN BE PART OF THIS EXCITING AND MEANINGFUL PROJECT

UPDATE AS AT 18 June 2020:

CASH DONATIONS received:  R31,211 (via Quicket & direct donations) -

    (Thanks Thanks Thanks! )

  •   lunch/meals served:  10575
  •   sandwiches provided:  18500
  •   food parcels distributed:  More than 150

While we have formally closed our school under the lock-down,

  • the children keep coming daily for food and there is no way we can turn them away. So we keep making big pots of food from anything we can scrape together & keep feeding as many of the kids as possible.
  • and lately even their parents are coming along for food
  • as well as more and more other children from the community.
  • ...AND SO THE NEED IS GROWING EACH NEW DAY...

** our hearts are big - but our pockets and food pots are too small... **

WE ARE THUS APPEALING TO YOUR BIG HEART

- Primarily to make sure the children (and other people in the community...) have at least one good meal per day.

- but also to settle the most pressing bills that will help to ensure that we can continue doing our bit to serve the community through this tougher-than-tough period & to come out stronger on the other side.

OUR INITIATIVES (Where your donations touch the lives of people on the ground):

Daily cooked meals & Sandwiches:

We are feeding a growing number of people every day.

Over the past 9½ weeks we have...

  • Served 10575 meals (currently between 250 and 300 people per day, 6 days per week)
  • Distributed 21500 sandwiches (1500 sandwiches twice a week)
  • Cost to date: R29,595 (excluding the many donations of goods/food saving us thousands & without which we would not have been able to feed so many!)

Your donation makes a very tangible difference:

  • A R500 donation feeds 60 people for 1 day
  • R1000 feeds 20 people for a whole week.

Food hampers:

  • With some generous donations of food parcels from community organisations and churches we have been able to distribute food parcels to the value of about R31,000 to more than 150 families. A BIG THANK YOU to these organisations!
  • For 84 other families we have gathered all the necessary information and submitted food parcel applications on their behalf to the Western Cape Government food relief programme (Department of Social Development, "DSD") & we trust that these families will receive their parcels from DSD in the near future.
  • NOTE: Going forward we will be focusing all our efforts on the daily feeding scheme (rather than food packet distribution) as we believe that is where we can make the biggest difference in our immediate community with the limited resources at our disposal.

Financial controls:

  • All donations received are paid into our NPO’s dedicated bank account with FNB (whether the donations are received via the Quicket fundraising campaign or via direct donations to us). Individual/personal bank accounts are not used at all.
  • Full records are kept of all funds spent on all of the above feeding initiatives.
  • Apart from the weekly reporting from Quicket, there is also oversight by an independent 3rd party (at no cost) to ensure all funds are accounted for and used as intended.
  • Please email us on [email protected] if you require additional information.

At HARARE KIDZ COLLEGE we have a passion for creating a brighter future for the bright eyed children from this diverse and challenged- but also dynamic, creative and tenacious community.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE ALREADY DONATED

& TO ALL WHO CONTINUE TO DO SO ON A REGULAR BASIS.

We are also receiving donations (funds and/or food hampers) from churches and community organisations in Dunoon and the surrounding areas. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM.

IT REMAINS A MAJOR EFFORT TO MEET THE GROWING NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE OF DUNOON – BUT WITH YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT WE ALL CAN MAKE A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF REAL PEOPLE – PEOPLE WHO ARE VERY MUCH LIKE US, JUST MORE VULNERABLE...

** JOINING OUR PASSION WITH YOURS WILL CHANGE THIS WORLD FOR THE BETTER **

Thank you!
