ABOUT

The St James/Kalk Bay Community Action Network (SJKB-CAN) is our neighbourhood’s way of staying connected, sharing resources and identifying those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are a local expression of the Cape Town Together initiative.

The SJKB-CAN aims to bring our community together to act quickly to #stopthespread and help those in need. This is where YOU can help.

Our aim is to raise funds to help people within our community, and further afield who are in need of food, medical assistance, psycho-social and physical support, family wellness and other resources. This will be done directly to individuals and households, and through established NPO’s.

Concretely this would involve directing funds raised towards:

  • local food security initiatives;
  • established organisations in the Community Action Network we are paired with, who understand the needs and complex relationships of the community they are working in;
  • specific individuals primarily via the purchase of Checkers, Shoprite, Usave food vouchers; which are forwarded to the recipient via a text message.
  • the ongoing needs of False Bay Hospital, which is now a designated Covid-19 testing centre.

We need to stress that this situation isn’t going to be solved overnight, we foresee the needs increasing as time goes by. Please consider making a weekly donation so that we can continue to help those in need and support established projects on an ongoing basis. All donations are most welcome. Every cent counts!

Once you click 'Donate now' there are a some options that come up. We've segmented them as we've had requests from people who would like to donate specifically to one of these two projects. You do still have the option to donate generally to the SJKB CAN which will assist the other projects we are also supporting.

Please do contact us should you wish to see our weekly reports - these are available and are circulated via the 'Streets that care' network.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
