ABOUT

Tamboerskloof CAN stands in solidarity with residents of ERF81 and Zwelitsha.

The Tamboerskloof Community Action Network (CAN)  was established as a neighbourhood response to COVID-19. We form part of Cape Town Together, a rapid-response network of communities self-organising to protect and support one another at a neighbourhood level. By sharing collective wisdom, energy and resources, we’re building relationships of solidarity to support each other through Covid-19.

In addition to supporting more vulnerable families in our own community, the Tamboerskloof CAN is partnered with Zwelitsha CAN based in Khayelitsha. Working together, we’ve been able to:

  • Share informational pamphlets in all our communities,
  • Begin a neighbourhood solidarity fundraiser that has managed to raise XXX through Quicket and Snapscan,
  • Safely deliver food parcels covering roughly the first 2 weeks of lockdown for 65 families that were identified as especially vulnerable in Zwelitsha,
  • Partner with Ladles of Love (https://www.ladlesoflove.org.za/) who are now supporting 3 soup kitchens feeding about 600 people daily in Zwelitsha,
  • Ensure that donations of dried goods given at local stores and fresh vegetables ordered from Eikelaan farm are distributed to the 37 families living at Erf 81 weekly,
  • Supply X number of homes with electricity and support soup kitchens with gas,
  • Share data and airtime with volunteers doing excellent organising work in Zwelitsha,
  • Sponsor beautiful masks made by a women’s collective to go to the Zwelitsha soup kitchens, Erf 81 residents, and homeless in our area,
  • Plant new seedlings for winter veggie gardens at Erf 81,
  • Release a video encouraging neighbours here and elsewhere to continue supporting t throughout those who would normally work in their homes throughout this difficult time,
  • Connect with each other as well as other CANs to co-learn and build deeper relationships

And we need to continue! By buying a ticket here, you allow us to sustain and grow these projects, supporting families in our local neighbourhood and our partner neighbourhood to get through the difficult months to come.

Let’s stop the spread!

Tamboerskloof Community Action Network (CAN) is part of the broader Cape Town Together network. This is a rapid community response to COVID-19 in which communities self-organise to take action at the neighbourhood level. The network brings professionals working in public health together with small business owners, soccer coaches, teachers, students, artists and more - and it's growing every day!
