ABOUT

CAN YOU HELP?

Can you help Special Hope Network as they support malnourished children with disabilities? Normally the network provides family and child support at drop-in centres for 350 families, but during the pandemic they need to find new ways of getting this vital support to vulnerable families.

From Co-Founder of the Special Help Network Holly Nelson:

"We are most concerned about our malnourished kids with intellectual disabilities at one of our 5 Community Care Centers around Lusaka (intellectual disabilities including Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, microcephaly/hydrocephaly, and other genetic disorders). These Centers are located in Chawama, Mtendere, Kaunda Square, Ng'ombe and Garden. We can envision a situation where people donate food and goods, and drop items at our CCCs, and then our social workers can call the mamas to walk there, one at a time, to pick up essentials for their child with special needs. If donations are more generous, then we can expand the pick-ups to all the mamas in the community. These children are so very vulnerable even before getting a horrible virus. Thank you all, for your generosity. For folks that prefer to give money, we will use that to purchase peanut butter and soy porridge from Comaco, a local company, as well as soap and other essential items that these families will need."
