ABOUT

ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to COVID-19 concerns, the conference has been postponed. Our priority is the health and safety of our members and the community at large, particularly the vulnerable. This isn't an easy decision to make, but we trust it's the right one. Please look out for a new date in the coming weeks. We look forward to communing and learning from you all. In the meanwhile, please stay safe and we encourage everyone to follow the protocols set in the President's speech.

The second gathering of people of colour in the SA food and beverage industry - cooks/chefs, sommeliers, stylists, activists, entrepreneurs, producers, media and allies: SA POC at the Table.

The aim is to provide a collaborative platform for leaders in their fields and young experts and to hold a series of uplifting talks and open discussions on burning issues faced in food/beverage spaces, entrepreneurship, identity, leadership and environmental issues, with the aim of growing it into a national event.

In a country with 90% people of colour, only a small percentage work in top positions in the broader food industry and our focus is on those addressing this and looking at alternative models of success. The line-up includes veteran South African food expert and author Cass Abrahams, restaurateur and cookbook author Karen Dudley of The Kitchen, conservationists Denisha Anand and Rupert Koopman, historian Vashna Jagarnath, award-winning sommelier Joseph Dafana of La Colombe restaurant, indigenous knowledge practitioner Carlo Randall and many other beloved personalities.

The event is free* and open to POC professionals and artists in the food and beverage industry, to POC allies and to POC members of the media - food glossies, trade media and newspapers.

*Cash donations will be gratefully accepted on the day for cleaning and set-up staff.

STRICTLY ONE TICKET ORDER PER ATTENDEE TO GIVE EVERYONE A CHANCE

This will be followed by a networking event and "market" to share ideas, contact details and products immediately after.
