ABOUT

Join the Day 1 Cycle from Cape Town to Franschhoek! We'll meet at 3:30am at Southern Sun Waterfront in Cape Town where all riders will have free parking and start cycling from 4am. We'll arrive in Franschhoek at around 8:30am!

Your R200 will go towards the Unogwaja Light Fund and will count towards our goal of raising R2million for 2015. You will also receive tea, coffee and snacks at the Southern Sun, Waterfront prior to departure, a pair of ShoOops! socks to don on the ride (and future adventures!), a great breakfast on arrival in Franschhoek (courtesy of Southern Sun Waterfront) and a chance to bid farewell to the brave Unogwajas in a rousing send-off as they embark upon a 1660km cycle journey across the country culminating in the 89km Comrades road race in their quest to raise R2 million for charity this year.

What is Unogwaja?

”This 10 day cycle from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg to run the Comrades Marathon on day 11 is a journey of the heart inspired by the life of Phil Masterton-Smith who in 1933 couldn’t afford the train fare from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg so he cycled up instead and finished 10th in the race. He died in World War Two in 1942. His nickname was “Unogwaja” meaning hare in Zulu and his legacy lives on in the Unogwaja Challenge. Wherever you go, go with your heart “
