ABOUT

Darkroom Contemporary presents their latest evening length dance work enititled BLUEPRINT, an innovative new work inspired by architecture and design thinking. As one of only two dance projects recognised in the official programme for World Design Capital Cape Town 2014, BLUEPRINT invites audiences to reconsider the links between dance and design. Weaving architectural design considerations into the choreography, sound and set design, this work offers a whole new way to appreciate the human form and the built environment – together and apart. Highlighting the similarities and differences between man and his surroundings, BLUEPRINT questions our place within a concrete and technological jungle, and considers the impact urban and technological advancements have on human connection and interaction.

Darkroom Contemporary artistic director and choreographer Louise Coetzer works closely with a host of collaborators to create a truly multi-disciplinary performance staged within four rooms of the Cape Town City Hall exhibition area.  Acclaimed music producer and DJ, Ebenhaezer Smal contributes a unique and contemporary score for this work. With sculptural installations by visual artist Imraan Samo, laser installation by Fabian Humphry, and data visualisation by Clear Data Viz, BLUEPRINT becomes an exhibition of the human form in motion, set against the backdrop of these visual elements.

Recognised for its unique and innovative style, Darkroom Contemporary’s performance company presents works which are current, relevant and accessible, while offering audiences unique experiences through staging site-specific and interdisciplinary dance theatre.

BLUEPRINT will be staged at the City Hall from 28 July – 2 August 2014, at 8pm.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature of the work, certain sections of the production will have standing room only, although seating will be available for most part of the duration.

This project is made possible through support from the City of Cape Town Department of Arts and Culture, World Design Capital Cape Town 2014, and Darkroom Contemporary's Thundafund backers.

An official project of World Design Capital 2014 – Project #WDC559
