ABOUT

On the 27th May, Cape Town Design NPC will be hosting the fifth WDC pitching session (#WDC099) where project owners will pitch to an audience of potential funders, mentors and collaborators under the banner of “Live Design. Transform Life”.

The first four pitching sessions for the recognised projects within the World Design Capital (WDC) Cape Town 2014 programme, have enjoyed growing success with support pledged in cash and kind and new partnerships formed.

The programme team at Cape Town Design NPC (the implementation agency for WDC Cape Town 2014) has identified several projects that showcase cutting-edge design, innovation, social entrepreneurship to be part of the pitching session on 27 May.

“To realise the legacy ambitions of WDC we’d like to see as many of the recognized projects brought to fruition and growth,” says Nicky Swartz, programme director of Cape Town Design NPC. “These pitching sessions aim to showcase the projects and what they need in terms of funding, capacity and collaborations, whilst encouraging the public and business community to identify projects that they would like to support through both large investments and crowdfunding.”

Cape Town Design NPC has allocated R1-million to go to recognised projects and will award R10 000 to the best project pitch at each session. The winner of last month’s session was Regeneration of City and Soul (#WDC368). Furthermore, CTD has partnered with Thundafund to match the first R10 000 that WDC projects successfully raise through their Thundafund crowdfunding campaigns. “Join us for both an entertaining and stimulating evening and meet the minds behind dynamic design-driven projects offering innovations that address society’s needs. Better yet, put your money behind those projects that move you,” concludes Swartz.

The pitching session will be held at the Clocktower Centre, Pavilion Conference Centre, V&A Waterfront, from 5pm to 8pm at a cost of R50 per ticket. This gets you a free craft beer and popcorn.  Members of the public, media, investors, philanthropists, government planners and business representatives are all invited to attend.
