A St Teresa's School & St David's Marist Inanda - ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL

Theatre on the Square - Sandton

ABOUT

It is difficult to create theatre. One doesn’t simply write a couple of lines and have a director throw some theatrical ingredients together. Creating theatre is a risky business, and a tough one at that. There are no guarantees of success or acclaim. One can only persevere by cautiously following the steps, fleshing out the ideas, experimenting with scenarios, testing characters, developing character relationships, finding the best available performers, rehearsing as much as is possible, adding whatever devices might serve to highlight the essence of the play and releasing it all to the universe once that curtain opens, hoping for a bit of magic, a bit of alchemy to weave it all together out of what was essentially nothing.

That is exactly the risky business our teenagers have undertaken in this One Act Play Showcase. The boys and girls of St David’s Marist Inanda and St Teresa’s School collaborate in a project that sees them producing three very different plays: the post-modern Feminists Anonymous created by the Grade 12s of St Teresa’s, the absurdist The Bald Soprano by Eugène Ionesco and the American realist Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet.  Join us to witness the seemingly magical process of collaboration, exploration, transformation and creation.
