THUHC - CPT EAST FORT TO BLACKBURN RAVINE TRAIL (5km)

Our 5th Cape Town THUHC hike takes place at East Fort 

Please note we are limited to 50 people MAX 
A bit more about this hike...
This gentle walk on the mountains overlooking Hout Bay starts at East Fort and ends at the beautiful indigenous forest in Blackburn Ravine. It’s ideal for dog-walkers – and there’s even a poo-bag dispenser at the start!

Park at the East Fort car park just before the toll gates on Chapman’s Peak Drive. The fort itself is worth a quick look before you head up the steps then turn left on to a wide gravel path. This is the only strenuous part of the route, for the rest of the way you follow the old forestry road as it climbs gently then contours around the mountain. You are surrounded by fynbos, and the views along the way change constantly as you switch back and then meander around in the direction of Chapman’s Peak.

There’s no shade on the route, but there are some interesting places to stop - including an exposed shale band two-thirds of the way along - but the highlight is the riverine forest. There’s perennial water in a weir here so it’s a lovely place just to sit on a rock under the large rooi-els and cool off.
