RestFest 2017

Sat Feb 4, 10:00 - Sat Feb 4, 23:00

Restless River Vineyards

ABOUT

And we’re back ladies and gents, full steam ahead. Once again we invite you to come and spend a day on the banks of the dam on Restless River wine farm and soak up some live music and good times.

This event has two main objectives. Firstly, that you (and your kids if you have) experience an epic day enjoying the awesomeness of the surroundings, the company of friends and the music tickling your ears. Secondly, a huge part of why we put this event on is to raise funds for the Ithemba Labantwana Children’s Home in Khayelitsha.  Find out more at the bottom of this notice.

On to the event. Saturday the 4th of February is the date this will be happening and you’re invited to come and set up on the banks of the dam from 10am. We’ll be kicking off the first act at 12 and the music will run until dark. Due to the success of the previous two years and the evident popularity of the event, tickets will now be pre-sold through an online ticket provider and numbers will be limited to 500 (tickets go on sale soon), which was the magic number last year.

You know the deal by now. We will be providing music, a place to jol, braais and wood so you tan as many chops as you wish, and a sparkling dam to swim in. Alcohol-wise we’ll have crisp white wine available straight from the barrel as well as a small amount of Patriot Light Lager on tap. The wine that has been chilling on the dam floor since the last ‘Fest will once again be tapped so you can fill your bottle or jug at R50 a pop (with all proceeds to the charity). That will be the only booze for sale, it’s up to you to bring whatever else you need. We will have no food, water, soft drinks, ice or anything else like that for sale so please come prepared. If the beer or wine gets finished then it’s finished so it’s not a bad idea to have a back up plan just in case. A case just in case, so to speak.

Things you should bring:
Shade
Blankets for the evening.
Chairs
Cooler box
Ice (lots of, we have none for you)
Whatever you’re drinking if you don’t want what we’re providing.
Stuff to braai (looooots of wood will be provided)
Swimming kit
Life vests for kids under 10 (please please please adhere to this)
Lillo’s, inner tubes, inflatable swans etc etc

You get the idea. Music announcements to follow but rest assured we will once again have a stellar lineup.

With the event being held in and around the dam we will have lifeguards on duty until sunset, but in a crowded and noisy aquatic environment our concern is for the little ones so we’re implementing a strict rule that all groms under the age of 10 are wearing life vests AT ALL TIMES when in and around the dam. This is the policy and we trust you understand as no one wants the unthinkable to happen. Please ensure you have your life vest (one per kid) ready to show at the gate, as we will be asking to see it – no life vest, no entry, no debate!

We’re also firmly against drink-driving so we encourage you to either take advantage of the camping area we provide for free (under the trees below the dam) or book accommodation in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (Hermanus and Onrus are also a stone’s throw away). There are also various shuttle services, ask your host for details. Check out these sites for some accommodation options or just use the Google machine:

And that’s about that. Entrance is R220 per adult, R50 per child under 12, and gates open at 10am. Let’s kick the tires, light some fires and listen to some music. See you on the 4th of February.

Everything we do is in aid of the amazing work that Ntombi (the home’s mama) does with her 14 orphaned kids and we’re very lucky to be in a position to be able to help her out whenever we can. All of the profit we make from your entrance fee goes straight to her. Go and check out the Facebook page for the home and feel free to contact us if you wish to learn more about them or offer assistance of any kind. Along with day to day expenses and things like school supplies, clothing etc our long term plan is to be able to build them a container home and get them out of the shack they’re currently situated in. We’re getting there, slowly, so events like this help us bolster our collection efforts and get us closer to a roof and walls.
