ABOUT

Cast off the winter blues on a musical note at the V&A Waterfront’s Acoustics Underground series, showcasing performances from top local musicians in the intimate and historic setting of the Chavonnes Battery Museum.

The performance sees both singers on stage together for the full set performing a selection of hits from Springbok Nude Girls, Fokofpolisiekar, Van Coke Kartel and Arno’s English and Afrikaans solo career as well as SA Rock songs that have influenced and inspired them over the last 20 years.

Francois van Coke rose to fame as the iconic front man of legendary South African rock bands Fokofolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel. On the 8th of April 2015, Francois launched his self-titled debut solo album with the release of the most poignant ballad of the year - Toe Vind Ek Jou featuring Karen Zoid.

Records caved quickly after this release. It was the first Afrikaans album and single to simultaneously jump to number 1 positions on the SA iTunes Store this year.  The song was downloaded more than 20 000 times on iTunes thus reaching Platinum status as a single.

The music video for Toe Vind Ek Jou was viewed over a million times within 6 month and was announced as the biggest Afrikaans music video of 2015.  With numerous number 1’s on radio, massive media coverage and regular sold out shows, Francois’ solo career hit the ground running.

Francois' latest single, Ek weet nie, featuring Arno Carstens is currently charting on radio stations around South Africa.

During his career as the lead singer of Springbok Nude Girls and subsequently as a solo artist, Arno Carstens has released 12 studio albums, had over 20 top ten singles, won 5 South African Music Awards and shared the stage with legends of the music world including U2, The Rolling Stones and REM and performed at some of the most spectacular international music festivals including Isle of Wight, Glastonbury, V Festival, T in the Park and Hard Rock Calling.
Arno’s 13th full length studio album, Die Aandblom 13 will be released in August 2016.  It will be his first Afrikaans album, and the title pays homage to his childhood home address, and his Afrikaans roots. The album is preceeded by a 6 track EP which debuted at #1 on the SA iTunes Afrikaans charts and #4 on the SA iTunes International charts.
The first single, Ontwaak, is currently charting on radio stations around South Africa.

Performances are limited to 200 guests, and a cash bar will be available on the evening. Doors open at 7pm, and performances are scheduled to start at 7.30pm.
