De Oude Kraal Country Estate & Spa will be hosting our annual Venison festival for the 18th consecutive year and it is our 5th year in partnership with our main sponsor, Nedbank.
The main aim of the festival, is to shine the spotlight on the wide variety of game available to us, and how transformative a dish can be, when you use excellent quality meat, in innovative ways, as demonstrated yearly by chef/owner Marie Lombard and her dedicated team. The process starts with female animals for best quality meat, aged appropriately and divided into the correct cuts for the designated dishes. Marie’s opinion is that Venison as a winter meat source, is a hugely undervalued meat commodity in South Africa.
Experience venison dishes as you have never before tasted, the depth of flavour, texture, dimension and complexity , offers a plethora of variety and can be compared to the art of wine making. The venison dishes to taste on the day is, Springbuck, Gemsbuck, Blesbuck, Mountain Reebuck
Come and meet the owners of the wine estates, telling you more about the farm as you taste the lovely wines on offer. Each venison stall is flanked by a wine estate creating an atmosphere of superior quality and taste experience. Each adult ticket includes a complimentary tasting glass.
Country farm experience including some outdoor activities like horse back riding, A wagon and tractor drive leaves every hour, Clay pigeon shooting, .22 shooting is for the competitive spirit in you, Kudu dung spit [Combined with mampoer for courage and sanitation and great fun is had seeing who can spit kudu dung the furthest.]
Other activites on offer is a play area for the kids with jumping castle, our new Curio shop De Skaap Kraal winkel, featuring sheep related products from clothing, toys, stationary, ceramics etc..
No festival is complete without the rugby on the big screen, beertent and great music[upcoming singers]
