Rhebokskloof Wine Farm

ABOUT

The Rhebokskloof Dog Walk and Fun Day for the whole family is organised in association with Drakenstein Animal Rescue organisation and will take place at the renowned and very beautiful Rhebokskloof Wine Estate.

Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, situated in the magnificent Paarl valley, is nestled between the granite hills of the Paarl Rock mountains, creating a unique micro-climate.
The picturesque Estate boasts award-winning wines, a restaurant and is the perfect location for weddings, and events. Rhebokskloof Wine Estate is very child friendly, with jumping castles, a trampoline, jungle gym and pony rides over weekends.
A perfect place to have a dog walk!

We will have different routes to walk your dog.

  • There will be a Treasure hunt on route where you and your dog can try to find some hidden treats.
  • We will have different competitions with lots of prizes.
  • Lucky draws will be done.
  • Food stalls will be available

We will have a FlyBall demonstration at our Doggy Walk. If you do not know what FlyBall is then read this:

FlyBall
Flyball racing is a fast and exciting sport, not only for the spectators and handlers, but for the dogs as well. There are four dogs on a team [sometimes with a reserve]. As the teams line up the excitement builds. With each dog eager to compete, sometimes it's all the handler can do to hold their dogs. A whistle signals the start of the race. The first dog from each team is released. Racing side by side, each dog races down its lane, skillfully hurdling a set of four jumps set 3.05 meters apart. At the far end of each lane is a Flyball box. Each dog must release the mechanism that releases a tennis ball. Hopefully, the dogs will catch the ball (if not, the dog must retrieve the ball) and return over the four jumps with the ball. As each dog crosses the start/finish line another eager dog is released. The lead changes several times as dogs and handlers alike make mistakes. Sometimes dogs chasing loose balls will miss a jump, or get turned around all together and return over the wrong set of jumps. The first team to have all four dogs successfully completed a “clean” run wins the heat.

Demonstration by K9 Search & Rescue

  • K9 SARA is a not for profit volunteer association training air-scenting search dogs to be available for wilderness searches for missing people in and around the Western Cape.
We are a unit of civilian volunteers who train our dogs in wilderness search and rescue. The dogs use air scenting to locate missing persons. ie: adventurers getting lost/injured in the wilderness, suspected missing persons having left home on foot etc.
  • Our dogs are not tracking dogs and do not need scent articles. they will find any living scent carried on the wind in the area. The dogs cover big areas much faster than a person on foot would and can locate people in hidden areas where a human searcher would not think to look.

We want to make people aware of the important job these dogs do. We train the dogs for two years in order to qualify them. They are qualified on international search dog standards and the handlers need to be well schooled in search techniques and be able to read their dog in order to not miss anything.

We act on instruction from the Police, Emergency Services, Disaster South Africa and Off Road Rescue Unit Wilderness SAR and are available to whomever may require our services at NO CHARGE.

The Unit works both locally in and around South Africa as well as internationally if called upon.

It promises to be an enjoyable day with lots of fun and exercise!

Please support this good cause by attending the event.

All proceeds will go towards the Drakenstein Animal Rescue and their ongoing mission to improve the lives of needy animal in the Paarl area.

Come have breakfast, have a good walk and enjoy a lovely lunch on the beautiful lawns at Rhebokskloof.

Hope to see you there!
