Poetic Thursday's continues to grow from strength to strength having hosted their first show some years back with Formulae Bar in Klipspruit. The platform has risen to great heights with back to back sold out shows at Soweto Theatre. Poetic Thursday has since become one of the country's most looked at poetry platforms and has been a leader through the Covid season with live streams, hybrid and live shows. This adds onto their reputation and track record having hosted numerous artists from outside the county, numerous book launches and album launches.
SPIN Venek is Sabelo Soko's latest body of work. Sabelo has worked tirelessly at bringing value to the poetry industry in SA. The artist is a serial dabbler, he has dabbled with scriptwriting, acting, and has made his name recognizable in the South African Theatre industry. His WordUP Tape Mixes are known to celebrate poetry records. Among the many accolades in Sabelo's locker is a coveted nomination for Best poet at the South African Traditional Music Awards; quite impressive and attesting to his abilities as a spoken word artist and performer.
Soko has been dubbed a traditional poet over the years yet with SPIN Venek, the artist sets ti remind us, how wide his range is, as he explores the vernacular of the streets that raised him, with a spin of the traditional concepts that guided his previous body of work.
The SPIN Venek Listening Session will be supported by a band as is normally the case with Soko's productions. The evening will also include performances by the sensational Sedisoul of Bloma Nathi Radio; poet and host Mangala Strider and performer extraordinaire Jonathan Lefenya.
